Bisnow’s Neighborhood Series: Anaheim & Santa Ana

Orange County consistently ranks as one of the most desirable places to live and work in the U.S. With Great school systems, affluent neighborhoods, and a low unemployment rate, which reached near historic lows in November last year at 2.8%, this county has some of the strongest demographics in the state.

Anaheim and Santa Ana have placed an increased emphasis on the development of real estate in each respective city. In Anaheim, the city is undergoing one of the largest developments in Orange County, Jefferson Stadium Park, which will deliver 1,079 apartment units, 14,600 square feet of commercial space and a 1.1-acre park. Further, Disney has plans to construct a new, 700-key hotel at the west end of the Downtown Disney entertainment district. Next door in Santa Ana, developer Mike Harrah has a $1 billion plan for the old O.C. Register site and envisions a "mini urban city."

Will millennials in Anaheim and Santa Ana ever be able to afford to buy a house, or will apartments be the way of the future? What's driving the development into each respective city? Is there enough demand to satisfy all the oncoming supply?
